The Bravest Moment of My Life (Essay Sample)

The Bravest Moment of My Life

Have you ever dared yourself doing something out of the extraordinary? Like flying in the air with only a big cloth and few pieces of metals supporting you? I did, and it was the bravest moment of my life.

It started with a simple invitation to have a fun weekend with friends. One friend of my mine works in an aviation club and she said she could provide us with free rides. Like anybody else who was offered something free, I readily accept. Who wouldn’t? I could have fun without spending a single thing as these rides cost a fortune. Yet I could honestly say that I did not really know what I was agreeing to, neither did my friends. What we only knew was that their aviation club had small planes for touring around the city.

When that afternoon arrived. We were welcomed by two-seater small helicopters with open and closed cockpits as well as two-seater paraglider with a small motor attached to it. As my friends were with me and we were open to having a new experience, we dared ourselves to give it a try. That time, there were other tourists flying and all the closed cockpit ones were already booked thus we ended with the open ones. The open cockpit helicopter is called Gyrocopter and the paraglider with a motor in it is actually called a Weight-shift flex-wing microlight. There were four of us who were to ride that day. Two were to ride the gyrocopter and my luck made me one of the two people who were to ride the weight-shift flex-wing microlight.

The Gyrocopter, if you have not seen one yet, is just a very small helicopter, fit to seat two people. The cockpit is open so when you spread your arms wide, you will only grasp air. It looks like a big toy yet it flies. Your safety relies on the expertise of the pilot, the seatbelt, and the helmet. At least it has rotors in it which makes you feel a little safer because it looks more reliable than a cloth.
The Weight-shift flex-wing microlight, on the other hand, can also only hold two people. One is the pilot and the other is the passenger. The seats are aligned vertically and the width is just big enough for one person to sit comfortably. It also has an open cockpit and the only thing that will help it fly above air is a thick cloth with an arrowhead shape supported by metal rods attached to its body. The pilot does not have buttons to control but just a vertical rod connected to the wings to control its direction. It does not really inspire much confidence, right? Yet the thrill of the moment, fueled by the cheers for courage by my friends, plus a handsome young pilot vouched by my friend who works there, enabled me to sit in the passenger seat and attached the seatbelt with my nervous hands. The helmet was brought down on my head. The beat of my heart is louder than the motor and I could barely hear the pilot when he gave instructions but, I was grinning from ear to ear either by fear or excitement. It was really happening. The pilot signaled a thumbs up and I gave him mine then off we went. One second, the tires were still touching the runway and another second, we were lifted in the air.

I think I shouted a lot when the paraglider was still gaining some altitude. It was a bizarre and crazy feeling of hanging in the air and only gripping the side metal frames of my seat for support. I was gripping them so hard that my knuckles were almost white. The cold air seeps through my thick clothes as it was nearly winter that time. But when I had overcome the millions of worries that rack my brain and the tension was relieved through all the shouting, I started to look down. The view was exhilarating. I can see the buildings and the green patches of oases amongst the vast reddish brown sand. On the other side, a deep blue ocean gives a great contrast. Small cars are running on the long winding roads. I was experiencing a bird’s eye view and I suddenly envy them.

To be able to fly freely, experience the cool air, and being able to enjoy the great view of the landscape is the greatest feeling I have ever felt at that time. It was also the bravest challenge I have dared yet in my lifetime. Maybe someday, I’ll try skydiving as well. Would you dare to try?

Are You Good At Keeping Secrets? (Essay Sample)

Are You Good At Keeping Secrets?

In our daily lives, we get to meet people from different walks of life. While some get to live with us, some tend to move to other places. Making friends seems quite easy since you get together and discover each other’s personalities. However, trusting someone is not that easy since it is almost synonymous with putting your life into another person’s hands. Moreover, you do not know to what limits you can share your deepest worries with them.

Some people are good at keeping secrets while some are not. There are some who can decide to keep a secret, but it reaches a time when they are not able to keep it to themselves thus share it with others. However, as the owner of the secret, you believe that regardless of the circumstances they are in, they ought to ensure that they live according to their promises. Having promised someone that you will not reveal what they have told you and you later come to do the opposite is a betrayal. This not only makes them disappointed in you but also creates a rift between the two of you since you have evidently shown them that you are not dependable. Furthermore, you hurt their feelings in the process. However, some people are also good at keeping secrets because they value their friendships and the respect they have for each other. Others fear keeping secrets because they are unable to withstand bearing that information since they believe hiding it from others will hurt someone. However, there are secrets which can hurt other people whereas some do not involve them. Conversely, it is essential for one to ensure they know who they are sharing their secrets with and trust that they will not reveal it to anyone. As for me, I am good at keeping secrets and my friends can attest to my words.

There are various reasons why I choose to keep secrets the main one being to maintain peace. My main aim of keeping secrets is to keep or maintain peace and keep people from being hurt. Moreover, it is fundamental that some information is best known to you than the public at large. This is because you will have a shoulder to lean on whenever you encounter a disheartening or overwhelming situation. The fewer people know about the difficulty or hardship you are going through, the better. Despite the fact that some may opt to offer a helping hand, others may choose to mock or laugh at you thus the reason why you ought to keep some things to yourself. Am good at keeping secrets because I do not like it when other people get hurt and I always try to avoid such disheartening situations.

Everyone has a vision, and to some people, it is preferable that it is best known to themselves and a few friends rather than the public. This is because someone might try to steal your idea or thought and put it as their own or one might have bad intentions for you. There are people in this world who do not like seeing others thrive thus they can do all they can to hinder one from achieving their dreams. Therefore, when one has a plan of making things better or making it in life, they ought to share the idea with someone they trust or keep it to themselves. Keeping secrets helps one realize their visions and allows them to pursue them without any interferences from a third party.

Some people presume that when you keep secrets, your primary intentions are to lie about something. However, that is not the case. At times, one can find it irrelevant to talk about some things and hence prefer to keep them to themselves. This does not necessarily mean that you are lying about something. Additionally, when you want to tell a secret regardless of its relevance, you ought to mind how you share it as well as the person you are sharing it with. They could be listening to you or be there in body, but their minds are not. This will help you know if your secret is in good hands or it will come to light after some time.

Am good at keeping secrets for the safety of my well-being. Some information is best kept than shared since you might never know the consequences of revealing it. Moreover, some people might use that information to turn the tables against you thus hurt you. Keeping secrets grants me the privilege of having information that other people do not have. This makes some of them curious and desperate to know about it. Therefore, it is better for your safety to keep some information to yourself than to share it.

Additionally, keeping secrets allows me to maintain my dignity. Some of my friends find it easy to share something with me because they believe I cannot betray their trust. Furthermore, I always put their interests at heart thus find it hard to disclose what they have told me.

In conclusion, being secretive does not necessarily mean you are telling a lie but putting your safety and that of others first. Additionally, keeping secrets helps maintain peace, enable people to trust you, as well as letting someone achieve their lifelong dreams. Therefore, it is good to be secretive.

Time When I Was Surprised (Essay Sample)

Time When I Was Surprised

In life, there are moments which move us to admit that life is full of surprises. Sometimes, we are surprised by our friends and colleagues or by life events themselves, for instance, when a childhood friend whom you have not been in contact with for over a decade decides to visit you. The outcome from surprises tend to be either satisfying or unpleasant, but in most cases, they are often pleasant. Regardless of the outcome, surprises are often memorable. Most of them usually turn out positive hence later in life, you come to laugh as well as tease each other about them. Moreover, surprises create a strong bond between you and your friends since you get to plan how to surprise one of you without their knowledge later thus have fun while at it. Below is a story of a time when I was surprised.

I had had a rough week in school. A busy schedule which could not allow me to rest as well as heaps of assignments. Whenever I had finished my essay on time and forwarded it, the professor kept on returning it to me claiming that it had not met the required standard. At times, I thought the professor had a problem with me since I proofread my papers more than expected and I also often asked some of my classmates to read through them and help me correct all errors. I could not wait for the weekend to come so that I could go home and take a break from all school work. I went through my essay as many times as possible and delivered it on Friday since the professor could not give it back until the next week. When the weekends came, I did not hesitate to get home since my parents were not around and I needed to be alone and rest.

I got home on Friday evening feeling exhausted. Along the way, I had a misunderstanding with my best friend Carol over a slight issue which made her storm to her house angrily. I chose to let her be so that she could cool down before I would talk to her. Once I entered my house, I heaved a sigh of relief since at last, I was in one place where I could not be disturbed or get into an argument with someone. I threw myself on the couch and started binge watching my favorite television show when I heard the doorbell. I wondered who it was since it was rather late and I had not informed anyone that I would be home except Carol who was mad at me. I stepped out to see who it was but no one was there. As I was getting back to the house, someone grabbed me from behind and all of a sudden I was unconscious.

I did not know for how long I was unconscious and hence I could not remember the events that followed later. When I woke up, I found myself in a dark room unable to see or hear anything. I started asking myself what was happening to me. I already had a rough week in school, I was not in good terms with my best friend and to add salt to injury, I was kidnapped. Luckily, my hands and legs were not tied thus I did not hesitate to find the door. As I tried to find my way out, I stumbled over a stool and landed on the light switch which I turned on immediately. “Surprise!” I turned around quickly, and to my amazement, I was in my house, and my best friend Carol held a birthday cake which read, “Happy Birthday Liz.”

I was too overwhelmed to speak. Tears of joy started flowing down my cheeks as I hugged her. I did not know it was my birthday and that Carol had it all planned. She had everything prepared from the moment she brought up that argument which led to her storming to her house. I was perplexed that she pulled the surprise with most of my high school friends. Moreover, most of them said it was literally my ‘bath’ day and that they had to do the necessary which mostly meant pouring cold water on me. I was asked to step out into the garden, and each of them took turns washing me. I tried to make them stop but my joy betrayed me and I cannot say I did not enjoy every bit and drop of water on my body.

I later changed into warm clothes and joined them in the living room. We enjoyed ourselves and partied all night till dawn. I was happy that Carol managed to put a smile on my face after the hectic week I had in school. I really enjoyed myself and thanked my friends for coming. I did not have any words to say to Carol since she had made that day the best day of my life. Moreover, she gave me an idea of how I was to surprise her come her birthday.

In conclusion, this is how I was surprised. I did enjoy myself as well as got to bond with my high school friends whom I had not seen for a while.

Has My Neighborhood Shaped Me? (Essay Sample)

Has My Neighborhood Shaped Me?

As humans, I believe we are past racial segregation. However, a new has risen, and it is the idea of neighborhood separation. The neighborhood I live in does not ultimately define who I am. I agree it does have a small aspect on the measure of peace a family can have and the schools can attend; nonetheless, some individuals choose to have a higher quality of life experiences and prefer not spending their hours toiling extremely hard to purchase a home in an incredibly decent neighborhood. Additionally, some individuals are birthed into families that are less fortunate and live in regions that are not the most extravagant; however, they never allow that to define who they are. I believe if one works hard and is willing to apply the effort, they can thrive despite their neighborhoods’ status, as long as adequate resources are provided.

An article composed by Michael Gonchar’s states that many working-class and low-income families are gravitating towards suburbia reasons which appear to promise better schools, less violence, and job opening. I think Gonchar’s article fails to define what suburbia is. In his article, Michael made it seem that the suburb is where the fortunate reside; however, a suburb is a mixed or residential area existing either as a constituent of an urban area, city, or different residential community within a city’s commuting distance. This article is in a way saying that individuals inhabiting suburban houses are better off in life. I suppose I am in no way defined by the area I stay in. As long as I have the essentials in life, I will be defined by the individuals around me along with how I carry myself.

To support my point further, some people splurge carelessly on experiences and not on mortgages for homes in ‘decent’ neighborhoods. I would personally opt to live in a smaller home, in a neighborhood classified as less than ideal and still be capable of exploring the world. I believe that these are the experiences that define you as an individual; the time sacrificed to tour the planet, seeing civilization from different prospects, soaking in new cultures and experiencing other countries’ way of life.

“Bad neighborhoods will visit you if you do not visit them,” Thomas Friedman once stated. This quote simply states that bad neighborhoods merely consist of bad people; this is untrue. Michael Oher, who played for the Baltimore Ravens, was birthed and raised in the ghetto, with no father and a mother who habitually consumed drugs. Each day, Michael was surrounded by gang members, drugs, and violence. Despite these, Michael allowed not his neighborhood define who he is. He broke out, started playing football, and transformed his life (he made himself a name). Is the phrase “from rags to riches” familiar to you? Millionaire movie and play producer, Tyler Perry began with nothing. He initially was homeless and slept in cars and under street benches. Even though Tyler Perry did not necessarily live in a neighborhood, Perry refused to have those above define him. Like I stated earlier, now he is a millionaire.

Other than becoming rich, some individuals only thought “I discern what I want to become, and I will labor tirelessly to get there.” Another example is myself; I lived in a neighborhood known as ‘Wheeler Holmes’ where nothing good ever happened. It was either one was in a gang, constructing chaos, or getting drunk. Currently, I am an academic achiever working on my goals. I choose not to be like the others in my neighborhood. I desire to become somebody. I made a choice.

Some people argue that when you are part of a gang and you continually have to represent your neighborhood and if you’ve been deprived since birth, you have no option. I disagree; you have an option not to join the gang. You can make a resolution and dedicate yourself wholly to achieve it. Like Michael made a choice to evade the gang and Tyler Perry to not settle for poverty, you can decide as well. It sums up to you, as an individual, is what you yearn to be. Only you can define yourself.

Ultimately, the neighborhood I reside in does not and will never characterize who I am. I believe I am defined by the individuals around me and the way I carry myself along with the experiences all through my life. For instance, I am shaped by my mother who has inspired me to exceed and transcend my current circumstances. She constantly coaxes me to perform in school, and she helped me get mentally ready for school. Through her, I realized that with perseverance and commitment, anything is accomplishable. I initially believed that my neighborhood would affect the person I am, I was mistaken. Because of a wise woman’s guidance, I define my future. Despite my neighborhood’s norms, I still remain me. I strongly disagree that one’s neighborhood defines them.

What Is Something That You Believe In Strongly? (Essay Sample)

What Is Something That You Believe In Strongly?

People get to encounter different experiences on a daily basis. Some are thrilled and excited about them whereas others are hurt or have regrets of being in a particular place when certain occurrences take place. While some people learn from these experiences, others are disappointed with life. Some easily give up and presume that there is no reason for them to continue living. However, as the adage goes, ‘what does not kill you makes you stronger,’ one ought to pick themselves up and turn their disappointments into positions of strength. Sometimes, you do not choose to be in a particular place when something happens hence this should not disappoint you but rather strengthen you. Mistakes are bound to happen, and sometimes, some are inevitable. However, we should not let them wear us down but instead, learn from them and use them to make us progress or better ourselves.

Everyone has something which they hold dear to them, and they strongly believe that they can try their best to have a positive outcome of it. As for me, what I hold dear to me is my life. I strongly believe that I can change the kind of life am leading to a life full of hope and a prosperous future. Believing in myself helps me understand what I am capable of as well what my weak points are. Additionally, this helps me learn and understand how I can turn my weaknesses into my strengths. For example, when I find essay writing as a challenging task, I do not ignore or brush aside the challenge but seek to become better at it. This is also a similar case of when a baby is trying to walk. They fall many times, and this does not deter them from making further attempts. They eventually come to walk on their own because of their perseverance. Using my weakness to strengthen myself acts as a step towards achieving my goals since they help me move forward rather than lag behind feeling remorseful and disappointed with life.

Secondly, being persistent and determined helps me maintain focus. This is because I try my best to ensure that all the attempts I have made in trying to accomplish something are fruitful and that they do not go to waste. For instance, whenever I do not grasp something in class, I often ask the lecturer to clarify the statement much further so that I can be able to fully comprehend and understand what was trying to be conveyed. Moreover, I even spare some time and consult them whenever I am unable to understand something taught in class or from my studying. This helps me understand things much better as well as focus on improving my grades.

Thirdly, I look up to inspirational messages from different prosperous and successful individuals. Having something that drives you to work hard paves the way for you to aim at achieving your goals and making your dreams a reality. Such messages help you pick yourself up whenever you feel miserable and despondent and hence enable you to have an optimistic perception of life. For instance, there are moments when things seem not to work for me when trying to make a difference such as trying to find a means to help my parents with my fees and many times, doors close in front of my face. On most occasions, I get disappointed if I am not able to find money-making schemes. However, I choose not to be miserable and opt to look for other methods which may not be paying well but keep me from idleness.

Fourthly, to make a difference in the kind of life I lead, I always look up to my role model. I keep tabs on his accomplishments and this gifts me the notion that I too can make a difference in my life. My role model is Elon Musk, and I often read his books to understand how he was able to accomplish an achievement after another. This helps me learn to pick myself up in meeting my objectives if something goes awry. Additionally, looking up to my role model helps me challenge his personalities in accomplishing my life goals as well as making my dreams a reality to better myself.

In conclusion, everyone has something that they strongly believe in. I strongly believe in myself, and this helps me understand my capabilities as well as my difficulties. This has also helped me learn to be optimistic and think positively. Life is encumbered with many challenges and hardships which we ought to endure if we want to make it in life. Success does not come to someone when they sit down and fold their hands. Everything comes to you when you work hard but you have to practice to not let your disappointments hinder you but rather strengthen you.
